How Cancer changed our lives!

You go through life thinking .. how lucky our family is.. we never deal with cancer! Yes, Cancer has certainly impacted our lives, but never my immediate family !

Then October 2019 our little sister Vicki Price (Vicki Doodle - childhood nickname) announces that she has stage 4 Cervical cancer and it has spread to her lungs ! it knocked us all for a 6.

Chemotherapy started immediately and Vicki Doodle took that on with great gusto ! She was stoic and Never complained or not smiled. Always smiling at the nurses when they pushed a needle into her Port-a-cath. Never to let on, how this disease was making her tired, unable to climb the stairs in her house and feel the endless need for long hot baths for some small amount of relief from the pain in her body.

Skip forward to Christmas 2019 - Vicki's first round of chemo had finished and she was feeling great! Even starting to get a little bit of fuzz back on her nude head ! It was the best Christmas EVER !

She started feeling unwell again June 2020.. and we received shocking news on the 30th June that there was no more treatment to be given and she was terminal.. Maximum 7 days left with us!

WELL ! In true Vicki Doodle fashion.. 7 days.. NEVER ! We moved her into Palliative care at the Mater Private Redlands and we aren't sure if it was the love and kindness that surrounded us there or the drugs ! But much to everyone's amazement Vicki rallied and she stayed with us for another 50 days.. WOW! How blessed were we to spend those precious days with her..

We miss her every single day, and I sob as I write this.. My heart is truly broken .. My life will never be the same.. but I will never take a moment for granted with my family or friends.. you never know when it will be the last time you see them, hug them, tell them you love them !

Rest easy Vicki Doodle.. WE LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK
